Mateo

In 2009, I documented the story of Mateo Solis, a 7-year-old boy with Cerebral Palsy, in Quito, Ecuador.

Mateo receives therapies at Fundacion Integrar, a non-governmental organization dedicated to helping children with special needs. While reserved at the foundation, Mateo transforms at home, where he is full of smiles and laughter, often playing with his beloved toy, Tigger. His family—parents Liliana and Fabricio, and younger sister Catalina—provide unwavering care and support, ensuring his life is filled with love and dignity. Liliana credits the foundation’s therapies for Mateo’s ability to stand and walk independently.

This story was made possible through the collaboration of Fundacion Integrar and the Solis family.

Dias de los Muertos

The day of the dead is a Mexican festival to celebrate the departed souls of loved ones. The cemeteries which often represent a dead view by the world, suddenly looks alive with millions of candle light and people hovering around them. It is not only beautiful but a very spiritual experience. Family members gather around the tombstones often singing, sharing jokes or sometimes just being there quietly.

These photographs were made over a period of 10 years from 2009 till 2018, around small towns in Patzcuaro, Michoacán.

Templo Comedor - Changing the face of Colombia

In August 2017, I collaborated with Fundacion SACIAR, a non-profit food bank in Medellin, Colombia, dedicated to addressing food security in impoverished regions and fostering hope in a nation transitioning from decades of armed conflict.

My photo essay focused on their initiative, "La Transfiguracion - Templo Comedor," in Apartadó, Urabá—a region deeply impacted by Colombia's 50-year conflict. This food temple serves vulnerable groups, including children, pregnant and lactating mothers, and the elderly, while empowering local mothers as volunteers who cook, clean, and organize. Beyond food distribution, the program emphasizes education, training, and community-building, embodying the values of love, sharing, and compassion.
